The design concept fits into the context on of environmental sustainability. The goal is to enhance PaperStone, a relatively unknown material due to the low amount of knowledge surrouding the benefits that such a sustainable material can bring to both the environment and the design project. The design criteria involves: the exclusive use of joints, and the absence of glue and screws; the adoption of a parts assembly system; and a study to ensure the reduction of swart. The bookcase is composed of a total of 29 pieces, has a height of 182 cm, a lenght of 100 cm and a depth of 30 cm. It is formed of six shelves, with two elements wedged between each of them to support the bookcase. The base is designed with an interlocking system which guarantees security and stability, by supporting the entire weight of the structure. Lastly, a sliding mechanism has been designed for each shelf in two different ways. The positioning and size of these supporting elements have been carefully considered and designed to also allow the combination of multiple bookcase, this creating different configuration.
