Milan, Italy. 2009 – in progress, The company ALER has launched a competition for the redevelopment and expansion of a residential complex in Milan. The planned extension is about 3500 m2 more. The proposed MCA provides an intervention aimed at three main objectives: The redevelopment of the ground floor and basement the energy upgrading of the external architecture of the four towers and the construction of residences for students to be placed on the roofs of the 4 towers. The new residences are designed in two different schemes: The first (repeated on two towers) incorporates the theme of "micro village" the houses are small independent units, with different shapes and sizes, the second (repeated on the other two towers ) is more traditional, like "a hotel" where rooms are distributed around the core, a central courtyard. The project makes the buildings more energy-efficient, healthier, and safer, while integrating new functions and new spaces for collective use.
