Portola Valley’s new Town Center was developed in response to two distinct and complementary needs. The first addresses the seismic, access, capacity, and infrastructure issues of the Town center’s aging buildings. The companion goal seeks to create a more unified Town Center that supports civic and community activities and the cultural life of the Town. To develop a compelling vision for the new Town Center, the design team of Goring&Straja and Siegel and Strain Architects worked closely with the Town Council, Administration, Town Committees, andthe community at large through the Spring and Summer of 2004. Weheld facilitated community design workshops to solicit input, testideas, identify what people like and don't like about the existing site, and develop alternate approaches. The plan was further refined with additional committee, council and public review. The project was designed to obtain LEED Platinum certification. Construction was completed Fall 2008.
