MOAK Studio

Biography:

Mauricio Sanin and Kelly Durango are the Co-founders of MOAK Studio, a contemporary design studio based in Cali, Colombia. They are both Industrial Designers and hold a master in Furniture Design and also a master in Product Design and Development, both studied at the ELISAVA School of Design and Engineering from Barcelona, Spain. They are convinced that the magic of each project and product is based on its conceptual component, it is the one that brings to life an idea through stories and elements that connect us directly with objects. Is the subtlety that makes each detail to have a specific meaning.

We have become light dependents and without it we would have long, sad and in-officious nights, but we have forgotten that it is a resource that we must pay for and we even misspend. What if a lamp helps us to be aware of the value of light, energy, and money? DINA needs money to activate, coins are the ones who transmit power to let it shine. It is more than just a lamp; it is a different way to light up our consciousness.

Wind is a force that can be as subtle as devastating, it is nature’s engine and its changes generate different states. By blowing, we can be originating mild forces, tiny storms. Why not take advantage of this impulse and change the way we relate with objects that surround us? With a humble blow VOLÉ can turn on or off its dim light to generate introspective and warm environments.

HILO

HILO, makes us use objects again with our hands, to feel them, to understand them, to analyze them and, why not? To question and show us different ways to interact with them. Technology should bring us closer to objects and ward off from the comfort we have come to, by controlling most of the things around us through a single device, our cell phone. By manually raising and lowering the HILO knob, we control music’s volume to achieve the mood and ambience we wish.
