Biography:

440 Audio is a family business. We have joined forces with master craftsmen to make custom turntables. When designing our products, we follow the principles of simplicity and inconspicuous elegance. We let our materials show their potential to the fullest. The role of our turntables is not limited to producing good quality sound. We would like them to be a piece of art which has a deeper meaning and value in the context of its surroundings.

Dominika Petrtylova

Biography:

Student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She studies glass under the direction of Rony Plesl. She is specialized in hand painting on glass and vase design. In her work, she is inspired by the old masters, nature and the environment that currently surrounds her.

Vandalvase red - black - blue

Hand-blown glass into the wooden form. Hand painting with gold, high enamel and glass baking colours. The inspiration comes from the paintings of old masters and decorators, lichens and city calligraphy.

Kristyna Mikolaskova

Biography:

Kristyna Mikolaskova is a 22-years-old product and graphic designer from Liberec, Czech Republic. She graduated from a Secondary School of Applied Arts and Vocational College of Jablonec nad Nisou in 2014. She has been studying Industry Design at the Czech Technical University in Prague since 2014 and there she has discovered a passion for glass and lighting objects at the Marian Karel studio. She has received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2017 and now she is undertaking a master’s degree course. She has been awarded the Best of Design prize at Czech Design Week for the Dione lamp. She prefers pure shapes, simple lines and emphasises emotion in her works. She likes to create objects which have effect on a human mind. Her work is influenced by her interest in graphic design and she tries to apply it to the products themselves.

Dione – The Emotive Lamp

The Dione lamp consists of two autonomous parts which create a sophisticated unit. It is a very intensive and significant concept as it is inspired by planetary conjunctions which symbolise archetypal birth of light radiated from the Sun through the solar system. The intersection of light from a ball-shaped source with a metal-coated parabola creates an imaginary projector and reflector and refers to the order of planets. The lighting process is inspired by the daily cycle of the Sun. It creates an intensely emotive experience and as a whole it achieves a harmonic perception which accomplishes the original concept – to calm oneself down and to contemplate. The lamp helps to overcome a depression and has generally a positive impact on psychological well-being of a human. The work was created as a bachelor thesis at the Czech Technical University in Prague in 2017.
