Anya Gupta, Marc Librizzi, Max Pratt

Biography:

Anya Gupta

Having lived in 6 different countries, my interests in art and design have stemmed from my cultural background. My work aims to explore my cultural experiences in a historical, political and occasionally humorous ways. To me, furniture and design play a crucial role in not only the continuity of tradition and culture, but its evolution.

Marc Librizzi

Marc Librizzi is a 21 year old designer from the U.S. who is currently studying furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design. His work focusses on exploring new materials and processes. Often the work created embraces accidents and the natural properties of a material. Much of marc’s inspiration can be derived from the common and vernacular. Through the intervention of uncommon processes and materials he is able to create unique objects that borrow elements from the world of the vernacular.

Max Pratt

I am a Providence based artist working in wood, metal, and textiles. I began studying furniture at the Rhode  Island School of Design in 2016. My work lifts form and process from natural materials. It mimics anatomy and figure in furniture. The objects that people live with should be informed by how they live. Take negative  space from the lines of the human body, and translate it into a positive space to support that body. An object created in this way, the user is invited into the space, and its function is instinctively understood. The forms take  on  a  fragile  but  inviting  look.  I  create  gallery  furniture  for  the  modern  home.  Through  the  lens  of figurative study, I am exploring the properties of materials and ergonomics.

CHARPAI
Having lived in 6 countries, none being India, I grew very distant from my heritage. In an attempt to reconcile with my neglected Indian heritage, I made an Indian daybed (charpai). While heavily influenced by Indian culture, the materials and colors used speaks to my other cultural experiences as well. The daybed uses maple wood, hand-dyed and hand-woven danish cord.
